Small Water Cast Silver and Gold Charm, n21
Dainty brushed sterling silver clamshell-shaped water casting with a polished 18k yellow gold ball symbolizing a pearl, on a sterling silver chain is a sweet, loveable necklace that would make a wonderful gift to be treasured for years to come.
A go-to necklace can be dressed up or down and worn every day. Built to last generations, I made this using a water cast method where molten sterling is dripped into a crock of cold water from a height of about 12 inches. When the liquid silver hits the water, it instantly cools the silver, freezing in time when it meets the water. These casts are very organic looking; most look like flower petals or, like this one, seashells. I couldn't resist adding an 18k solid yellow gold 'pearl' to finish the look.
I gave the silver a brushed satin finish which contrasts nicely with the highly-polished gold ball. The tube bail is hidden on the back of this pendant. The pendant measures about 12.6mm x 11.5mm and the 18k gold ball about 2.45mm in diameter. The sterling silver chain is 16 inches long.
